.BMCentral Sounds Like a Good Idea, Until the Popups

Adware programs have a wide variety in methods of attack. Some just quietly sneak themselves onto your computer. Others get bundled in with other, sometimes legitimate, programs. Still others will romance you into willingly downloading them. .BMCentral is in the last category.

This program was originally launched back in 2005 under the guise of “Bookmark Express.” The idea behind it seems appealing enough. The software offers a service that exports your bookmarks to an internet location so that you can access them from any other computer that has access to the net.

Of course, with this program, you get more than you bargained for. The remote access to bookmarks feature is actually a problem hiding in plain sight. For one thing, if your bookmarks are being exported to an outside website, who else can see them? For that matter, what else is being sent along with them? The answer to both questions is that you may never know.

What will definitely come to your attention is that suddenly, your computer will start displaying pop up advertising. Interestingly enough, these advertisements are all relevant to your browsing activity and bookmarks. Your computer will also start running slower and some of your programs will display error messages and quit. This is especially true of your internet browsers.

You might ask, “So, what exactly is causing all this trouble anyway?” Simply put, .BMCentral uses up a lot of your computer’s memory when it runs. What’s especially bad about an infection with this bug is that it often comes bundled with other adware. The pop up ads themselves don’t use up much of your memory; it’s the activity you don’t see that’s the trouble. As you may be able to tell from using your internet browser, it takes a lot of memory to communicate back and forth on the net. When this is going on without your knowledge, naturally, this slows down everything, especially your internet activity.

Some people may think that adware activity can be solved by an antivirus program. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Antivirus programs only pick up viruses, and mostly have nothing to do with adware. To remove adware, you need a spyware removal program.

I personally recommend SpyZooka for all your spyware protection. It has all the features you could possibly need. It is the only spyware remover that promises 100% spyware removal and is backed by the Better Business Bureau. The reason we can live up to this promise is that we have a robot scanning the internet non-stop 24/7, looking for new spyware to add to our list of known infections. A typical scan can also be done in a fraction of the time that it takes other programs. We’re talking 10-15 minutes rather than an hour or two! It also protects you from getting infected to begin with! That’s right; any definitions that are in our library will not infect your system! This is, without a doubt, the best protection there is.
