WindowsAntivirus2008 – Another Counterfeit Windows Rogue Antispyware Program!

Every time I turn around it seems as if there is another phony antispyware application coming down the pike, and lately the trend seems to be to make them appear as legitimate as possible, mainly by using names of known entities like Microsoft Windows to imply trustworthiness, something that it clearly needs to be able to do the con job it is setting out to do. WindowsAntivirus2008 is yet another in a disturbing line of these pests.

WindowsAntivirus2008 aims to make a buck off you by enticing you to part with some cash for its premium protection against all manner of viruses and spyware it will claim have taken up residence on your machine. It has arrived unannounced, probably through a Trojan such as Vundo or Zlob, and set up shop without your knowledge or permission and started a “scan” of your computer. It then shows you a list of “threats” you’ll want to get rid of ASAP. The problem is, however, these are phony threats, and the software “fix” WindowsAntivirus2008 is hawking won’t do anything other than to dump even more harmful spyware onto your computer, and give you the privilege of paying for it!

WindowsAntivirus2008 is the problem, not the answer! It will hijack your browser and keep presenting you with popups until you relent, or until your system comes to a screeching halt through the consumption of all your resources. The real danger in a program like WindowsAntivirus2008 is the company it keeps. Many of the associated programs it brings to the party can and will do a great deal more damage than WindowsAntivirus2008 itself.

Getting rid of WindowsAntivirus2008 is no picnic, either. Don’t try to do it yourself. You will surely fail. These programs have an uncanny ability to hide and disguise themselves to avoid detection and deletion. Instead use a trusted and proven antispyware software solution, the best I know of is called ZookaWare PC Cleaner. It will kill off WindowsAntivirus2008, and any of its “friends” that may have tagged along!
