NaviSearch — Unwelcome Toolbar and Adware

I had a negative experience with a program called NaviSearch I want to share with you in hopes that I can save you from going through the same thing. After what I went through I did some research to better understand what happened, and came across a couple terms I’d like to share. The first one is adware. Before this I wasn’t sure what adware was; now I know. Adware is a program that is written to expedite the delivery of advertisements to you. In most cases, and the case of NaviSearch, this takes the form of pop-ups. The second term is browser helper object, or BHO. In most cases these take the form of a toolbar, change your home page settings, and will hijack your search results.

I don’t know how NaviSearch got on my computer. I found out that it can be forced on your computer as part of a bundle. So you won’t know about its installation until after it is installed. That also means it installs without your permission. You will be flooded with pop-ups that will not close or minimize like other pop-ups and you will be forced to restart your computer to get rid of them. NaviSearch monitors your web browsing activity to give you ads that it thinks are relevant to what you are looking at online.

Removal is not an easy matter either. If you try to remove NaviSearch via add/remove programs, you will find on system reboot that it didn’t work. NaviSearch reinstalled itself or it just didn’t get removed. To completely remove NaviSearch you need an anti-spyware program, but not just any anti-spyware program will do. Most only remove 80-90% of an infection. That can leave you still infected. There is only one anti-virus program on the market that guarantees 100% removal and that is ZookaWare PC Cleaner. No other company out there even attempts to remove 100%. Until ZookaWare PC Cleaner came out, 100% removal was unheard of.
