PowerSearch is an adware hijacker that is implemented into your Internet Explorer as a Browser Helper Object.  PowerSearch will change your homepage and tamper with your settings.  PowerSearch also has the capacity to track your online searches and your browsing preferences.
PowerSearch was possibly installed onto your computer bundled with a package called “One Nutty Santa Screensaver,” but can also be downloaded through ActiveX after browsing through insecure websites.

    I’m using Mozilla Firefox and my browser was infected with PowerSearch. There was no way to search for something to remove it and I had to install Google Chrome. After that, everything came back to normal.
