Supaseek Seeks What You Don’t Want It To
Supaseek is a spyware program that targets Internet Explorer. It is a Browser Hijacker that transmits from supaseek.com. You catch it under the pretense that it’s a video codec, and it uses an ActiveX installer to infect your computer.
Supaseek is able to infect computers with Windows operating systems from Windows 95 to XP. These include Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, NT, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP.
As a Browser Hijacker, Supaseek installs a new toolbar on your Internet Explorer browser and collects information about your browsing history. It sends this information to a remote server, where it gets categorized for customized advertisements. While there is little evidence that this information is used for anything beyond this, your information is definitely exploitable.
Supaseek works constantly in the background, collecting your information and sending it to a remote server. This increased workload takes resources such as random access memory (RAM) and bandwidth away from other programs that use them. The net result is that your programs will run slower, and some, especially your web browsers, will crash.
The advertising that Supaseek provides is given by redirecting your browser to sites within its network chosen based on your browsing history.
Given that Supaseek was installed on your computer without your knowledge or consent, interferes with your browsing experience, and saps your resources, it’s easy to see that you don’t really want it. Especially considering that it collects your information and sends it somewhere you don’t know of, maybe to be seen by people you don’t know.
With all this in mind, it comes highly recommended that you remove Supaseek from your computer. To do this, you need an antispyware program, but you can’t just settle on any antispyware program. You need one that you KNOW will get rid of Supaseek and other infections.
