Why Not To Download Ekerberos

Never download an antispyware or antivirus just because you get a pop up warning you that your computer has been infected. More often than not, it’s a scam to try to get your money while providing you with no value. Ekerberos is one of the culprits of this scam that can silently install itself onto your computer with the help of a Trojan and will continue to make your life a nightmare until it is permanently removed. Popups are one of the more likely ways it can get onto your computer, but it’s definitely not the only way.

You may notice that your computer has become very slow when trying to do anything. Or you may see that your browser homepage has changed to a website promoting ekerberos. These are all symptoms that ekerberos has been downloaded on your computer so you should take all the necessary steps to remove it immediately.

Here are some manual steps you can take to remove it:

Kill the following processes:

Go to Start > Run > type taskmgr. Go to the Processes tab and stop the following processes:

Delete the following registry values:

Go to Start > Run > type regedit > press OK.
Edit the value (on the right pane) by right-clicking on it and selecting the Modify option. Select the Delete option.
Search and delete these AdvancedPrivacyGuard registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run ekerberos
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\ekerberos displayname
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall\ekerberos uninstallstring

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run ekerberos
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run ekerberos

Unregister the following DLLs:

Go to Start –> Run –> Type “cmd”. Type regsvr32 / u *filename.dll* –*filename.dll* is replaced by the files below.

Delete files:

%program_files%\\ekerberos\\hook.dll %program_files%\\ekerberos\\skinactive.xml ekerberosinstaller.exe %program_files%\\ekerberos\\ekerberos.exe %program_files%\\ekerberos\\uninstall.exe

Delete directories:

Although it may be tempting to just go ahead and follow these directions above you need to do so with caution. Too many times people accidentally delete the wrong file that’s important for the operating system to run properly. Another error people make is that they don’t delete all the files, so even after following the instructions above, ekerberos may still be on their computer.
