PeoplePal is a spyware toolbar program created by PeoplePC Online.  It was first discovered on August 17 of 2006.  It’s quite an ironic program.

According to their website at http://home.peoplepc.com, “The PeoplePal Toolbar with Pop-up Blocker is here to block annoying pop-up ads before they interrupt us, and give us one-click access to the stuff that’s important like email, news, weather and search – all for FREE. It provides one-click access to all of PeoplePC: My Account, Help & Info, and the Home Page. It Search the Web from anywhere on the Internet.”  It’s interesting that it professes to “block annoying pop-up ads” when it generates them itself.

Even worse than generating pop-up ads when it says that it blocks them, PeoplePal is spyware.  It monitors your browsing habits, presumably in order to deliver user specific advertising.  More so than ordinary adware, spyware’s activities can cause browser stability issues and slow down your browsing speed.  This is because it uses more of your computer’s resources.  You should definitely remove it from your computer if you’re infected.
